It’s all about the journey

by Kate on August 30, 2012

The only way to learn about life is by exploring.

Earlier this week, I wrote in my newsletter about a change in focus for Starfish.

I’m writing because the focus of Starfish has changed a little from what it was when I started out on this journey and we first met. I thought it was time to let you know!

If you’re in franchising, you’ll probably know that Peter Knight and I have a business called Smart Franchise. I’m excited about what’s happening in that business.

As my work with Peter has evolved, I’ve been considering the question “Where to now?” for Starfish Consulting.

With a sharper focus, Starfish Consulting will continue to help businesses (franchises and others) in three key areas:

  • Productivity and process improvement for businesses dealing with growth or change.
  • Strategic and business planning, and corporate coaching to support action and accountability.
  • Tackling ‘tough, challenging, projects’ that you might have given up on, or can’t see a way to resolve – yet still need to.

My brain likes order and explanation, and wants to elaborate on the why’s of this. But I can’t find words. It just seems so completely natural to acknowledge this shift. It’s not a sudden thing, an idea hatched in a planning session, rather it has has evolved over time. Quite a long time, actually, since it was in 2008 that Peter and I first worked together.

That first workshop was about financial communication – helping financial experts communicate better with their clients. Over the last couple of years I’ve found I love the work we are doing in financial communication. I love how we do it, and the difference it is making for people and business. It’s all about the journey, it’s fantastic … and it’s only just begun.

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time. (T.S. Eliot, Little Gidding)

Thanks Deb. It’s been wonderful so far and it’s up to us to keep it that way. I never imagined having a business partner could be so much fun, and so rewarding.
